Today's final Thailand day was spent cavorting around the canals of Bangkok & exploring parts of the city tourists rarely find their way to. We explored the full length of the Soeng Saep canal on the local Khlong boat, taking us from bustling Bangkok city out to the tranquil suburbs and back again. The scenery was never-repeating and the banks of the canals brought us gold-leaf-laquered Wats, teetering teak shanty-houses and riverside noodle-stops balancing precariously over the murky river waters. In less than 30minutes we were out in Bangkok suburbs – a quiet pace of life with the sounds of chirping birds and the sploshing of occasional passing boats.. a scene far removed from most peoples vision of 'crazy Bangkok'. Just shows, it always pays to get off the beaten track and see what a city truly has to offer past the well-worn tourist paths.
