Growing up in a small country far, far, far, from North America, but one that still beams in a ton of US pop culture is an experience that's difficult to describe to anyone who doesn't know immediately what I mean. But it's a thing – growing up watching TV, movies, and reading books referencing all these products, foods, shops, brands & experiences that are everyday to most Americans, but not available where you are. It's definitely the history which drives my relentless heckling of my boyfriend to provide for me an "American Experience" whenever we are in the country visiting. Last time, which thanks to this pandemic was actually all the way back in 2019! I managed to experience my first visit to IHOP & Waffle House, much to his dismay. Yes, I get how essentially *bad* these things are, and also I'm super sensitive to HFCS so actually both these experiences contributed to making me ill after :( So probably won't be doing them again! But, it was still pretty fun to experience these "US" things for myself that I'd only known from TV.
