Amazonas by canoe. Exploring the lands of tarantulas and Anacondas, the land of the Ticuna tribes who hunt with poisoned blowdart. Trees full of sloths and rivers full of piranhas. Lands full of incredible tribal and natural history.
Surreal and amazing way to spend my birthday. Views from the treehouse bed, many stories high in the treetops of the Amazon, with not another person or building in sight. Just us, and a small army of lovely little bats roosting in the eaves. So many sounds, creatures, and amazing nature. Also (surprisingly) even a little phone signal here and there to share my experience.
'Nostalgia in reverse, the longing for yet another strange land, grew especially strong in spring.' ~ Vladimir Nabokov
Today was a great day – in fact, they've all been great days recently. I've been offline for a while.. out in the world exploring China A country that has surprised me at every turn (pleasantly, thankfully) and kept my social media cravings at bay thanks to rampant and restrictive censorship. We've spent the past few weeks catching trains across this vast country from the west in Chengdu, through the ancient Silk Road hub of Xi'an and now into Beijing. Learning and experiencing a country I had only known of through countless tales from my father. It's been a fascinating journey and we still have another full day here before boarding our train out of China on Wednesday.
22 incredible days of Thailand – each one has been wonderful & perfect in its own way. It's been like revisiting an old friend, yet seeing it in a whole new light. Familiar, comfortable, but also a whole new adventure too. I so much would love for the lazy beach days, perfect weather and delicious food to go on and on (and on, and on..) but it's time to move on. Thailand.. I'm more in love with you than ever before. Until next time Next up.. well, tomorrow we board a plane bound for Chengdu, in the Sichuan region of China.. home of: >Pandas & panda conservation centres >Fiery hot food, Sichuan pepper & spicy soups, noodles + dumplings >Around 13.5million people (yep.. massive.. and it's not even China's biggest city either..) So, I am certain hilarity is to ensue in our stories to come.. so stay tuned for lost in translation, as well as generally lost, as we make our way through this giant of a country!
Hanging and adventuring with this guy today.. Exploring Rome, Colosseum hunting and eating ourselves into a coma before I fly off to India tomorrow
